KRIEKENBIER (CHERRY BEER)

kriekenbier

Since the province of Limburg has a long-running tradition of fruit production, and since this beer was originally brewed in Wellen, right in the middle of the fruit production region, we can safely refer to this beer as a traditional fruit beer. In the 1970s the Thijs family closed down their brewery with great sorrow. They welcomed the offer from fellow brewer Cornelissen from Opitter, who suggested continuing the brewing of the Thijs family’s brainchild Morel. In fairness, we have to admit that we have changed the original Kriekenbier slightly. This cherry beer used to be a high-fermentation beer, and we have turned it into a low-fermentation beer. But this does not change the fact that this fruit beer is extremely tasty, and is brewed on the basis of pilsner, just like our Bosbier. Awarded the Silver Medal for Quality in 1997.
